Ragnaros PRE-QUEST required?

I cleared MC today and ended up not getting Majordomo, he's not there and neither is Rag.
Are we required to do the tedious Rag-pre-quest line to put out the sigil fires?
I love this server; it's everything I've wanted and more since the vanilla expansions started rolling out. A big thanks and I'll keep donating to keep it alive and well as well as bringing in some friends! Much love!
